Venous thromboembolism and thromboprophylaxis in cancer patients

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a frequent complication in cancer patient, which influences the clinical course of the disease, increases mortality, reduces quality of life interferes with cancer treatment. The risk for VTE associated with cancer is caused by a number of factors, which have been basis for the development of risk scores. Identification of cancer patients at high risk of VTE, who would have the highest potential for benefit from thromboprophylaxis remains a problem in research.
