Acute appendicitis in pregnancy – peculiarities of diagnostic and curative management (literature review)

Abstract

Abdominal pain of non-obstetriccauses is not an uncommon event during pregnancy; up to 2% of pregnant women develop an acute abdominal pathology that requires surgical treatment during gravidity, such as acute appendicitis or acute cholecystitis. Discussions on the peculiarities of the clinical presentation, diagnosis and curative management of non-obstetric pathologies in pregnant patients remain relevant. Studies in the field have shown already that surgery during gestation is safe and effective if proper precautions are followed. The consensus of several committees and professional societies is that no pregnant woman should be denied the required surgery because of pregnancy
