Well-known versus “unknown” Gamma-Glutamyltransferase and metabolic risk factors for cardiovascular disease: is it just the liver?
Abstract
Gamma-glutamyltransferase is an established liver function test and a sensitive marker of hepatic inflammation. Recent studies have focused increasing attention on the usefulness of GGT as a predictor of cardiovascular disease. As a result, identifying higher than expected GGT levels should alert the physician to study patients more detailed, with the hopeful outcome of preventing unnecessary cardiac-related events and deaths in future years.Downloads
