Diagnostic and therapeutic approach of surgical treatment of a patient with portal hypertension.

Liver cirrhosis is a major risk factor of any surgery. The study is analytical, observational, retrospective and includes 427 cirrhotic patients treated surgically for portal hypertension. It develops the diagnostic-therapeutic and evolutionary aspects of patients with surgical status, the incidence of morbidity and mortality, risk factors and the main cause of death. It is important to remember the complexity of the cases analyzed percentage of deaths (21 cases - 9.3%) compared to the data considered as reference.
