Abstract

Obesity is an independent predictor of cardiovascular disease, with an increased risk in primary prevention, but according to several studies, the potential protective effect of obesity when it coexists with cardiovascular disease has been demonstrated, a phenomenon called the „obesity paradox”.While previous research has shown that inflammatory mediators have been associated with shorter survival, the effect of inflammation on the association between obesity and heart failure has not been considered. Adipose tissue is known to have a crucial role in regulating inflammation and metabolic homeostasis, but some aspects of chronic inflammation also have an adaptive or compensatory effect under certain conditions in obese individuals. In this context, it is important to investigate the mechanisms of the protective effect of obesity in relation to heart failure in order to understand this paradox and develop more effective treatment strategies.
