Abstract

Quality of life (QoL) in medicine means the physical, mental and social well-being, as well as the patients’ ability to perform the usual tasks in their daily existence. Chronic hepatopathies are accompanied by a variety of somatic, psychological and social problems, which affect the patient’s QoL.The aim of the study: to study quality of life indices in patients with chronic hepatopathies in the Republic of Moldova. There were 59 patients with various chronic hepatopathies: 34 patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection (CHVI-HBV group), 25 patients with steatotic liver disease associated with metabolic dysfunctions (SLDAMD group) and 26 apparently healthy individuals (control group). The SF-36 questionnaire was used to assess QoL. The lowest levels of QoL integral parameters were appreciated in the CHVI-HBV group: Physical Health Index (PH) - 46.69±1.22, Mental Health Index (MH) - 38.97±1.56 points. In the SLDAMD group PH were 47.02±1.37 and MH - 45.91±1.55 points. In the control group, the average values of PH - 53.01±0.91 and MH - 51.51±1.50 (р<0.01 with both study groups). The analysis of the results after the scores parameters reflects the maintenance of diminishing values trend in the CHVI-HBV group. PH scores of QoL demonstrate a weaker decrease. The SF-36 questionnaire can be used in patients with liver pathology; in chronic hepatopathies most QoL indicators decrease, with more severe damage in the mental component; in most patients with chronic hepatopathies the quality of life is affected, being more pronounced in liver diseases of viral origin.
