Abstract

Studying of the variational aspects of arteries is imposed by the modern requirements of the practical medicine. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the general and individual specific features of variability of the arteries of the arm. A retrospective, descriptive study was conducted on 70 embalmed upper limbs of both genders. Through anatomical dissection the anatomical and topographic features of the arteries of the arm were studied. Their variability constituted 28.6%: 18.6% in males and 10.0% in females; in 11.4% were established bilateral variants and in 8.6% - unilateral ones. Variants of origin were found out in 12.9%, numerical ones - 11.4%; common trunks - 5.7%; variants of the brachial artery branching patterns - 11.4%. This data will provide vascular surgeons with additional information to avoid possible errors during surgery.
