Abstract

38 patients were studied with mild and severe hypertension. Insulin resistance was diagnosed in 20 of these patients based on performing insulinemia, glucose in fasting state and impaired glucose tolerance. The inclusion criteria were the presence of left ventricular hypertrophy, the presence of sinus rhythm, glucose in fasting state ≤5,6-6,1 mmol/l, Body Mass Index ≤29.9 kg/m². None of the patients had ischemic cardiopathy, atrial fibrilation, bundle-branches, diabetes mellitus, renal diseases, pericarditis, stroke, secondary hypertension, systolic dysfunction, valvular diseases. All the patients included in the study were characterized by normal cardiac output. The results of 24 hour blood pressure monitoring in the patients with insulin resistance didn’t reveal any features comparing with patients without insulin resistance. However left ventricular myocardial mass was significantly higher in patients with insulin resistance. The analysis of correlation revealed a relationship between the left ventricular myocardial mass and the blood pressure.
