Abstract

The Sars-CoV-2 virus is from the coronavirus group with an affinity for affecting several systems, such as respiratory, cardiovascular, renal, gastrointestinal. A special role belongs to the nervous system, this infection involving the central nervous system (CNS) and the peripheral nervous system (PNS). The main viral transmission routes are the peripheral, hematogenous and lymphatic routes. Angiotensin convertase 2 (ACE2) has an essential role in the pathogenesis of Covid-19, underlies the inflammatory mechanisms and the so-called “cytokine storms”, influencing the development of coagulopathies and subsequent complications, with viral invasion of brain tissue due to crossing the blood-brain barrier. In the article, we analysed the main routes of viral invasion, as well as the neurological complications developed, involving both the central and peripheral nervous systems.
