Abstract

Stroke is a major public health problem both globally and in the Republic of Moldova, where incidence and mortality have been consistently higher than the European average. The evolution of the stroke healthcare service in the Republic of Moldova represents an example of systemic transformation, based on collaboration between clinicians, researchers, authorities and international partners. The creation of the national network of stroke centers, the significant increase in thrombolysis and thrombus extraction rates, as well as the reduction of critical intervention times, reflect premises for improving patient prognosis and reducing the socio-economic impact of this devastating pathology.
