Depression in patients with Parkinson’s disease. Preliminary results of the cohort study.

Depression is one of the most common psychological disorders in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). The diagnosis of depression in PD is difficult because many of the physical symptoms associated with depression (e.g., change in sleep) may be due to the disease itself, and sometimes depressive symptoms can be confused with symptoms such as bradykinesia, apathy, or cognitive decline. In this study we assessed depressive symptoms in 102 patients with BP, and the presence of depression was detected in 55% of patients, being more common in patients with higher disease severity.
