Abstract

The study sought to identify the diagnostic significance of thromboelastography in 44 adult patients with acute superficial thrombophlebitis of lower limbs, diagnosed by duplex scanning. The distribution of the thrombotic process was described according to the Verrel-Steckmeier classification, with types II and III defined as «near the junction thrombosis». The research results testify to the fact that the intensification of the hemostasis process in patients with varicose vein thrombophlebitis has a predominantly structural character, due to the increased density of the formed clot. Patients with acute superficial thrombophlebitis exhibit a hypercoagulable status especially when the thrombotic masses are located near the sapheno-femoral/popliteal junction.
